Building Relational Trust and Connection with a Joyful Mindset
Tuesday November 3, 2026 10:00am - 11:00am EST
Teaching Assistants occupy a uniquely powerful position in the classroom — often the first to notice a struggling student and the consistent presence that makes a child feel truly seen. This experiential workshop explores how an intentional, joyful approach deepens that impact. Through relational exercises and hands-on activities, TAs will experience firsthand how fun and genuine connection breaks down barriers, opens communication, and creates moments of shared joy that build authentic trust. Participants will explore how a mindset rooted in trust and warmth supports social-emotional development, helps regulate anxious or disengaged students, and creates the psychological safety where learning happens. A special focus on progressive risk-taking shows how carefully sequenced relational interactions build student confidence, resilience, and lasting connection — the quiet, powerful work TAs do every day.
This is the first in a series of three workshops with Howard Moody that build on each other and also stand alone.

See the Spark: How Strength-Based Practices Transform Student Motivation and Belonging
Tuesday November 3, 2026 11:45am - 12:45pm EST
What if the key to unlocking student motivation was already in the room? This workshop helps TAs shift from deficit thinking to a lens that sees and builds on every student's inherent potential. Grounded in growth mindset research and the principles of positive psychology, participants will explore how recognizing and naming a student's character strengths — rather than focusing on what's missing — transforms motivation, behavior, and self-belief. Even students with the most challenging histories flourish when a trusted adult consistently reflects their value back to them. Participants will discover how playful, low-stakes interactions are a natural vehicle for strength-spotting, creating the joyful moments where resilience quietly takes root. Leave with practical tools to make strength-based practice a natural, daily part of your work with students. This is the second in a series of three workshops with Howard Moody that build on each other and also stand alone.

Yes, And!...: Using Improv Theater to Build Joy and Belonging in the Classroom: Practical Improv Techniques That Deepen Student Relationships and Energize Learning
Tuesday November 3, 2026 12:55pm - 1:55pm EST
What if the most powerful tools for building classroom community came wrapped in laughter — and required absolutely no acting experience whatsoever? This hands-on workshop introduces TAs to foundational improv techniques that spark joy, deepen student connection, and create the kind of psychologically safe environment where every learner feels seen and valued. Rooted in "Yes, and..." thinking, these energizing, low-stakes exercises teach two of the most important lessons a student can learn: that mistakes are not just okay — they are the doorway to growth — and that making your partner look good is the heart of genuine collaboration. Both are powerful expressions of the character strengths we explored in workshop two. Many of the activities are partner games, making them a natural fit for the one-on-one work TAs do every day. Leave with a ready-to-use toolkit that builds authentic rapport, belonging, and joy — starting the very next day. This is the third in a series of three workshops with Howard Moody that build on each other and also stand alone.
